TranslateRocket includes a dedicated TranslatePress importer, so switching doesn’t mean retranslating your site. It reads TranslatePress’ own tables and brings your work over in one click — including on sites where the paid add-ons have expired.
What gets imported from TranslatePress
- The translation dictionary — every page-content string pair, per language.
- Translated slugs — your SEO URLs keep working.
- The gettext table (theme/plugin interface) is intentionally skipped: WordPress’ own language packs already cover the interface, and that table is mostly noise.
How to migrate, step by step
- Install TranslateRocket — free, from the official WordPress.org directory (Plugins → Add New → search “TranslateRocket”).
- In TranslateRocket → Settings, pick the same source and target languages you use in TranslatePress.
- Open TranslateRocket → Import: TranslatePress is detected automatically, with a count of the translations found.
- Click Import from TranslatePress — existing TranslateRocket translations are kept, imported ones are added or filled in.
- Deactivate TranslatePress and turn on Preview mode (“Who sees the translations” in TranslateRocket’s settings): you review the fully translated site on the real pages — and fix anything with the visual editor — while visitors keep seeing the default language, never a half-migrated site. During the review the public site stays in the default language — old language URLs simply redirect (no 404s), and the window can be as short as a few minutes: import, check, publish.
- Happy with the result? Set visibility back to Everyone and you’re live, instantly. TranslatePress’s tables are never touched, so they remain as a rollback for as long as you want.
